My experience at DevCon PH Mindanao
It was an amazing night for me to have participated at DevCon PH, the Mindanao Edition, held at SM City Davao Events Center. Just a quick overview DevCon stands for Developers Connect, it's an event, a gathering designed to facilitate interaction among the software and web development professionals.
It was a well attended event with diverse people from different cities and provinces. I had fun, really. Yes, I do. It's one of the liveliest events I've ever attended here in Davao. Well, thats aside from Ideacamp Davao. You know meeting, talking & coding with your fellow geeks while eating and drinking overflowing pizzas & beers, what more could you ask for. The good think about DevCon is, it's targeted on software and web developers. Yeah, it's for geeks with geeky stuffs. :) I just wonder if the same organizing group will have future plans on targeting the creatives. You know, the web designers community. I'm hoping much like a format of Future of Web Design. Well that'll be truly awesome. After the Lighting Talks, the debate on operating system push through on Birds of a Feather portion. It was a Mac vs. Linux vs. Windows debate. And as a big fan of Linux, I grabbed the opportunity to present myself as one of the panelists in favor of Linux. Guys, believe me. I WASN'T PREPARED. I didn't even imagined that I was able take the challenge in a very hot seat. But I was lucky to have partnered with a knowledgeable computer science / infotech student of Ateneo de Davao University. I'm really sorry, I forgot his name. (If you happen to remember his name, please post it through the comments section below) He was kind of fluent and was really deep on delivering the advantages of Linux. At the end of the debate, the crowd made the judgement. And the winner was.......... Windoze. :) Totally was a great experience. I had some laughs especially the talks of Mr. F1. Then came Hackathon portion. I teamed up with amazing programmer Vince Devera of City Hardware along with his colleague (I'm sorry, again, I forgot the name). Although we haven't won, we were kind of satisfied of our output considering the time learning a certain web app and with a time limit of only one (1) hour to complete a working SignUp form. It was quite fulfilling to collaborate with my Vince and his co-worker. You did a great Job guys. For the winners, allow me to extend my congratulations. I saw your app and it really was good. Thats all folks and enjoy some of my blurry, low quality snaps.
